Homes: Cliffcrest / Cliffside Neighbourhood
Cliffcrest (west of Bluffers Park) and Cliffside (east of the Park) are adjoining communities south of the railway tracks and Danforth Road, and overlooking the Scarborough Bluffs that rise high above Lake Ontario at this point. There is archaeological evidence of several First Nations settlements along the cliffs, some dating back almost 10,000 years. There was an early hotel on Kingston Road, which was moved to Black Creek Pioneer Village in 1962. The St Augustine Seminary was established by the Catholic Church just off Kingston Road in 1910, and has been a local landmark ever since. In 1912 Toronto and York Radial Railway established a station & a park along the bluffs, to attract passengers from Toronto. When the street car line was shut down in the late 30s, Kingston Road was widened for car traffic, and the community was developed right after World War II.
Motorists can head into downtown Toronto in about 25 minutes via Kingston Road & the Gardiner Expressway. TTC buses connect passengers to the Kennedy station on the Bloor-Danforth subway. Scarborough GO Train station (on the Oshawa-Toronto-Hamilton line), just south of St. Clair, whisks commuters downtown in 20 minutes.
Schools
These communities are served by 4 elementary schools, 2 Catholic elementary schools, 1 public high school, and 1 Catholic high school, beside the St Augustine seminary. Centennial College's Warden Woods Campus is west (at Warden & Danforth), the University of Toronto is easily accessible via the Bloor-Danforth subway, and Ryerson University is quickly accessible by GO Train.
Shopping
The Cliffside Village shopping district along Kingston Road (with a wide boulevard, between Danforth & Midland) has lots of small retailers, a number of plazas, and is also home to a number of small motels that had their hey-day serving east-west travellers in the days before the 401. Visitors can enjoy the colourful wall murals that depict the community history.
Recreation
The communities are dotted with small parks and playgrounds, but recreation is focused in two main parks: Bluffers Park, down Brimley Rd and on the Lake Ontario shoreline, has a beach, yacht clubs, a marina waterfront restaurant, and picnic areas. Birchmount Park, nestled west of the Danforth-Kingston Junction has 2 indoor pools, 2 baseball diamonds, a tennis dome, and an ice arena, a running track and soccer field. Across Kingston Rd, overlooking the bluffs, is the scenic Rosetta McCain Gardens
Homes
Cliffside is mature, well-treed, and close to beaches and waterfront recreation. There is a variety of bungalows from the era between the wars, giving the community a cottage feel. There are also 1-1/2 and 2 storey homes that date back to the 1940s and 50s, which become more prominent as you move east past Bluffers Park into Cliffcrest. There are a good number of homes with views of Lake Ontario, especially along Fishleigh Driver. The communities also have some newer custom-built homes. There are also some high rises northeast of Kingston & Brimley. Homes here are price from the low-medium to the high-medium ranges
