Transportation: Scarborough Airports

There are 2 local airports in close proximity to Whitchurch-Stouffville:
Toronto is serviced by four airports: Lester B. International Airport in Mississauga, and Toronto City Centre Airport handling most of the commercial traffic, and Markham Airport and Buttonville Municipal Airport handling most of the private air traffic.

Lester B. International Airport (YYZ)

Toronto Pearson International Airport is 27 kilometres from Toronto's downtown, and is located in the thriving suburban community of Mississauga. The airport is 173.4 metres (569 ft) above sea level, and covers an area of 18 sq km (7 sq miles). The airport is so big some phone numbers are area code "416" (Toronto) and some are "905" (Mississauga)! There are 141 gates in two terminals (with Terminal 2 is being demolished, starting in 2007). This airport handles most of Toronto's (and also the country's) domestic, international, and vacation travel flights. There are several publicly accessible indoor vantage points for aircraft viewing. You can find these on the departures (upper) level of Terminal 1 past the check-in counters, and the departures (upper) level at the east end of Terminal 3. The various departure lounges also offer views for passengers, post-security.

The terminals are connected by the free 24-hours a day Airport LINK Train System connecting Terminal 1, Terminal 3 and the Reduced Rate Parking Lot-Viscount Station. These are all wheelchair accessible The LINK trains run every 3.5 minutes during the day, a every 7 minutes non-peak. The inter-terminal shuttles are every 10 minutes, and every 15 minutes from midnight to 6 am. Toronto City Centre Airport (YTZ)

Sometimes called "TCCA", or just "the Island Airport"), this is relatively low-volume airport. The tenant is Porter Airlines (416-619-8506, Reservations: 1-888-619-8622)with connections to Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax using short-haul commuter planes. A free ferry service covers the 121 metres from the mainland every 15 minutes, 6:45AM-10:07PM. The airport is operated by Trans Capital Air/Stolport Corp.(203-1144, FBO: 361-1100)

The airport is not part of the Greater Toronto Airport Authority. This airport may disappear with the establishment of a planned Pickering Airport or re-location of Toronto/Buttonville Municipal Airport.

Buttonville Municipal Airport (CYKZ)

Buttonville airport, located just north of the Highway 7/ 404 interchange (and 29 km north of downtown Toronto), has been a landmark since 1962 and has grown to serve the York Region and Toronto. The airport (IATA: YKZ, ICAO: CYKZ) is open and staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a yea, and is a major port of entry for international air traffic from the United States, and also acts as a satellite or reliever airport to Lester B. Pearson International Airport at Malton. Both private and commercial aircraft can operate on the 4500 ft runways at Buttonville . The airport is operated by Toronto Airways Limited and because of its proximity to Toronto's suburbs, there are several strict noise-reduction procedures for aircraft using the airport.
