Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto

A non-profit, non-political organization dedicated to promoting the understanding of Chinese culture amongst Canadians. The Chinese Cultural Centre opened in 1998 is the largest Chinese cultural centre in North America and has a multi-purpose community complex. Through referrals and exchanges, the Centre will help facilitate exciting trading opportunities and strengthen the ties between the Canadian and the Far East markets.

Phase I contains an art gallery, computerised resource centre, reading room, boardroom, studios, classrooms, and a cafeteria.

Phase II will include the 600-seat P.C. Ho Theatre (with 390 on the main floor / orchestra level, and 236 on the balcony level). The stage can be set up in a special "concert mode" for musical performances or "theatre mode" for other purposes, including drama, opera, cinema, and dance There is also a multi-purpose hall for sports and recreational activities, conventions and trade shows. Three theatre groups in Scarborough area, consisting of Scarborough Music Theatre, Scarborough Players, and Scarborough Theatre Guild, share the 1983-built Scarborough Village Theatre. The Theatre was renovated in 1993, providing improvements to lobby and backstage areas.

Scarborough Music Theatre began life as the Scarborough Light Opera in 1961-62, with their earliest shows were Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. They present at least three full-scale productions each year, presented between late October and mid-May, ranging from dramas, children's shows, cabaret, galas and full summer seasons though lately mostly musicals. . It is a 245-seat "thrust" theatre with intimate reserved seating on three sides of the stage, and the stage is the lowest level of the theatre. The theatre is wheelchair accessible (please advise box office when buying tickets). Fre parking at the community centre.

Theatre doors open 30 minutes before the show. The Box Office is open from 10 am to 10 pm daily. Tickets may be purchased in person, or by telephone (416-396-4049); phone orders are by Visa or MasterCard only.

Scarborough Players

Founded by the late John Caldwell, Scarborough Players have been at several venues: Club Top Hat on Kingston Road, the Frigidaire Building on Eglinton Avenue, a church hall on Lawrence Avenue, and now performs at Scarborough Village Theatre.
